What is binding, and what this page is
The binding terms of any engagement are the written scope agreed for that engagement: what will be done, what is excluded, the price, and how change is handled. This page does not replace that, and it is not legal advice.
To be plain about the limits, this page makes no statement about corporate status, jurisdiction or governing law, and none should be inferred from it. Where those matter to you, raise them before work begins and they can be settled in the written scope.
Authority to instruct work
Work proceeds only on the instruction of someone entitled to approve changes to the site. Consequently a developer who built the site years ago, or a staff member without authority, is not sufficient on their own.
This protects you. Acting on the wrong instruction is how a site gets changed in a way its owner never agreed to.
Your responsibilities
- Maintaining your own hosting relationship and your own domain.
- Safeguarding your credentials, and rotating anything that was exposed.
- Giving accurate information about what changed and who has access.
- Keeping your own backups, and telling us if none exist.
- Making decisions in reasonable time when work is paused waiting on one.
That fourth point carries the most risk. If there is no usable backup, say so at the start, because it changes how cautiously the work has to proceed.
DuePress terms for scope and change control
Scope, exclusions and price are confirmed in writing before implementation begins. Therefore nothing is implemented on the strength of a verbal “just have a look”.
If new facts change the job, work stops for a new decision rather than continuing quietly toward a larger invoice. For example, discovering that a repair is really a rebuild is a stop-and-decide moment, not a reason to keep going.
Third-party dependencies
Hosts, payment providers, plugin vendors and other external services are outside anyone’s direct control here. Where the fault sits with one of them, the evidence is documented so you can escalate to them with specifics.
Similarly, an outage at a provider is theirs to resolve. Establishing which side of that boundary a fault sits on is often the most valuable part of a diagnosis.
What is not undertaken
Data that no longer exists anywhere cannot be recovered. Compromise recovery reduces risk and closes what can be closed, but no provider can guarantee that a site will never be compromised again, and none is guaranteed here.
Legal, tax and compliance obligations require a qualified adviser. Technical recommendations can be implemented, but the obligation remains yours. The full list of declined work is published in the service scope.
The software itself
WordPress is free and open-source software released under the GPL, and it comes with no warranty from its authors. Work done on your installation does not change that, and it does not transfer any licence you hold for commercial plugins or themes.
Where a paid plugin or theme is involved, its vendor terms continue to apply between you and that vendor.
